A green backup notification is reassuring, but it does not answer every recovery question. Your business needs to know which information is protected, who can retrieve it, and how much work could be lost between copies.

Understand the coverage

Ask which website files, stored content, and configuration are included. For WordPress, recovery can require both files and the database. External booking systems, email accounts, or form platforms may have separate arrangements. Write those boundaries down rather than assuming that a website backup includes everything a visitor can reach from the website.

Choose a useful recovery expectation

Discuss how frequently the business changes the site and which information would be difficult to recreate. A brochure page and a frequently updated booking workflow have different needs. Agree on retention, access, and responsibility with the provider. Keep a route to recovery that does not depend entirely on the one account that might be unavailable during an incident.

Test without replacing the live site

Arrange a restore into an appropriate isolated environment and verify representative content and functions. Record the date, outcome, and any gaps. A successful test from last year is not proof that today’s arrangements still work. Repeat the exercise when the platform or backup approach changes, and keep the process understandable to the person who would authorise recovery.
